Curriculum Video

Hello! I had a lot of fun creating this video! I had a really hard time keeping the time down and had to cut out some of my original ideas. Its amazing how quick five minutes is! This video discusses how to add fractions with unlike denominators, an important concept for fifth grade students. In the video I discuss vocabulary and the process of finding the sum of two fractions with unlike denominators. I can see myself making more of these kinds of videos in the future to post on my class website for students to reference at home and use as a tool for homework help. I thought it was interesting working with different camera angles and reading about them. I think this is something I would like to explore more in the future.

  1. Great job on your curriculum video! I could tell that you put a lot of effort into making the video 'mesh' and cutting down on time! You did a super job of transitioning quickly into the next section or bit of information to get going! I could also tell that you did some planning to get your different camera angles. It was so funny to me to pick right back up on this and I haven't done it in years!!

One thing I thought you could possibly change was the volume of the music in the beginning. It seemed pretty loud, but then when your narration came on, I could hardly hear it.

You seemed very knowledgable in the subject! I think this would be a helpful reminder or helpful video for students working on homework in the evenings or on the weekends. Good work!

  2. Great job on this video. I really enjoyed it as a math teacher. Plus I feel like by 8th grade students could use a refresher for sure, so I ma have to "Steal" it for a class real soon. I thought you did a great job of introducing and going through the algorithms for fractions. But even better was the manipulatives you added it the end. I think it gives your students a good visual to understand what you were talking about. I saw many different camera angles and I thought it helped focus our eyes onto the important concepts. The only thing I might have done was add some subtle background music behind you voice. Great job!
